Why Hello!

Welcome to Valley Church's Rwanda missions team blog.

We will be using this space to post information, prayer requests and photos about our upcoming trip to Rwanda.

Here's a quick list of vital info about our trip:
-Dates: August 4th through August 15th
-Location: We will be all over Rwanda, some people will be in the Capitol city of Kigali, the Remera district, and some will be in Ruhengeri Town. In case you don't know, Rwanda is a small country in the Great Lakes region of Africa:

-Ministry: Broken into three teams. 1. Vision care-lead by our Optometrist, John, will be administering eye exams and handing out glasses. 2. Cyber Cafe-an ongoing project for Valley, this trip we will be bringing 12 laptops for the computer lab, which will be connected to the internet. This team will train Rwandans on basic computer functions as well as internet use. 3. Outreach-This team will be putting roofs on churches, building shelters and engaging the community with the love of Christ.
-Team Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." ESV

We have been meeting together to plan and ready ourselves for the upcoming trip. Our meeting for Sunday, June 29th included some instruction from Gary, our fearless leader:

Then we were able to help John sort through boxes of glasses to be cleaned. In our sorting process we came across some fabulously retro frames. Of course, we had to try the most outrageous pairs on, and take pictures. So meet some of our team:

Tristan and Bob
John.

Kat.

Jess and Tristan.

One of Four boxes of donated glasses. Believe me, we have a lot of glasses.

John, Mark and Kat cleaning some of the donated glasses.

Jess and Tristan sorting single vision lenses, bi-focal, tri-focal, reading glasses and sunglasses.

Lastly, allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jules and I will be the blog's moderator. Basically, that is a sophisticated way of saying, "I'm in charge and don't you forget it." Here's a photo of me trying on my favorite pair of specs:

Thank you for visiting the blog, we appreciate the interest and support. Please check back weekly to catch up on our latest updates. We would like to turn this into a collaborative space, so feel free to post comments. We want to hear from you. My next post will be a thorough introduction of our team. We will also post our prayer requests, because prayer is the most important preparation of all.
